Benny Ray
Fisher
Aug 13, 1949 — Nov 28, 2022
Gruver
Taken from Psalm 1: The life of a good person is like a tree whose leaf does not wither.
Benny Ray Fisher, 73 of Gruver, Texas passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 in the home surrounded by loved ones after battling ALS.
Benny was born August 13, 1949 in Morris, Oklahoma to Arvin Fisher and Zadie Lou (Calhoun) Fisher. He married Charlotte Blakley on October 14, 1966 in Altus, Oklahoma, where they made their home and began their family. To them, Benny Ray Fisher Jr., Natalie Sue (Fisher) Thornton and Jennifer Lou Fisher were born.
A truck driver, Benny was the independent owner and operator of his own trucking company, Ben Fisher Trucking. In his business, he maintained lifelong relationships and friendships through the years. Everyone that knew him or met him liked him. Benny had the distinguished reputation of being a good man.
Benny is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and daughter, Jennifer, of the home; sister, Linda Gail Fletcher of Lawton, Oklahoma; brother, Ralph Dale Fisher of Midlothian, Texas; son, Benny Ray Fisher, Jr. and family of Mineral Wells, Texas; daughter, Natalie Sue Thornton and husband, Brent, of Elkhart, Kansas; grandchildren, Emmylie Fisher, Jordan Weeks, Lonnie Wayne Born and wife, Chelsea, Marshall Garrett Thornton and wife, Elizabeth, Ruby Katherine Thornton and fiancée, Zack Fowler; great-grandchildren, Lydia Louise Church, Willow Marie Church and Kanaan Jude Thornton.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ellen Sanders. Benny was also preceded, reunited and meeting for the first time, his infant great-grandson Daryl James Born and infant great-granddaughter, Dawson Ann Born.
There will be no services. It was Benny's wish to donate his body to the Texas Tech University Willed Body Program so that medical students may study and further research can be done on ALS so that less will suffer from it. He was selfless to the end and left his mark through that selflessness.
A prayer of Saint Frances: O divine Master, grant that I may not seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in dying to the self that we are born into eternal life.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hansford Hospice, 707 Roland, Spearman, Tx 79081.
