Leona was born on March 27, 1927 to Oscar Wright Bridges and Eathel Arnold Bridges in Willis, Oklahoma. Frank Armstrong and Leona Bridges were married on Nov. 6, 1949 in Borger, Texas. They moved to Perryton in 1959, where Leona worked at Perryton ISD for 18 years. She was faithful to take her family to church regularly to Peoples Chapel and later was a member of the Southside Baptist in Perryton. After moving to Spearman Hansford Manor, July 1, 2021 she changed membership to First Baptist Church in Spearman.
After retiring, they both loved to volunteer at the Perryton Senior Center for many years. She loved to sew clothes and was an avid quilter. Leona was a wonderful and loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her daughter, Patricia Ann Smith; brother, Ross Bridges; sisters, Anita Harris and Zelda Hicks; and special cousin, Pearl Perish.
She is survived by her children; son, Frank Hugh Armstrong of Lubbock TX; daughters, Lisa and husband Richard Pipkin of Spearman, TX, Teresa and husband Mark Freeman of Salida, CO; brother, Marvin Bridges of Fairfield, CA; and sister, LaWanda Walker of Durant, OK. She is also survived by three grandchildren; Candice Lee and husband Jeremy Sutterfield of College Station, TX, Kara J. Taylor of Sommerville, TX. and David R. Pipkin of Amarillo, TX; and two great- grandchildren, Myles W. Taylor and Olivia J. Taylor both of Sommerville, TX.
The family wants to express our deep and sincere gratitude to Dr. Garnett and his staff at the Hansford County Manor and Hospice for all the love and care for mom in the past year and 8 months. She could not have been in a better place.
Family suggests memorials in memory of Leona be to Hansford Hospice, 707 Roland, Spearman, TX 79081 or to one's favorite charity.
