She was born March 11, 1927 in Hutchinson County to Ervin and Ethel Sheets Hester. She was one of six children and her siblings were her best friends throughout her life.
She graduated from Spearman High School in 1944 and married Lloyd Buzzard on September 22, 1946. They had two children, Lynn and Patty.
Dorothy loved her family dearly and was proud to be a farm wife. She enjoyed telling tales about the early years of their marriage and raising sheep and farming. She would recall taking her infant son Lynn out to the field in a basket while she provided the farm hands' lunch during harvest.
Dorothy's other passion was her home and garden where she spent many hours growing her favorite flowers. She was a charter member of the Gladiola Flower Club where she shared her love of flowers with her friends. She was also very involved in her community as a member of the First Christian Church and as an active volunteer with the American Heart Association.
Dorothy resided at the Hansford Manor for the last seven years of her life. The family extends a very special thank you to Dr. Garnett and the staff for their generous and loving caretaking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by her cherished husband Lloyd in 1993 and by their beloved son Lynn in 1969, by which she was honored as a Gold Star Mother. By her siblings Joyce Crum (Jack); J.D. Hester (Winifred); Betty Scribner (Jerald); Doris Beck (Woody); Mona Beth Windom (Sonny).
She is survived by her daughter Patty Butt and her husband Terry. Her grandchildren Travis Buzzard and his wife Meghan; Kam De Leon and her wife Teri; Mat Taylor and his wife Jaime; Tara Horton and her husband Kerry & Cassie Beckwith and her eight great-grandchildren Vincent and Reese De Leon; Evelyn and Ansley Taylor; Makayla and Rilynn Horton; and Sallie and Lulie Beckwith. Daughter-in-law Bette Buzzard Bailey, sisters-in-law Georgia Holt and Judy Buzzard and many nieces and nephews.
