Eddy L
Clemmons
Oct 31, 1935 — Nov 8, 2022
Spearman
Eddy L. Clemmons, 87, of Spearman, went to his heavenly home on November 8 th , 2022. A celebration of Eddy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church of Spearman with Mindy McLanahan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Eddy was born October 31 st , 1935, in Pampa, Texas, to the late George and Mary Clemmons, of Lefors. He attended Lefors High School and graduated in 1955 after battling polio his senior year. Before the onset of polio, Eddy had been a Golden Gloves boxing champion and quarterback of his football team. His resilient spirit earned him the Fighting Heart Award from LHS in the spring of his senior year. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Anita Chitwood, on August 26, 1955, in Lefors.
He received both a bachelor's and a master's degree in education from West Texas State College in Canyon. He returned to his hometown of Lefors to coach and teach for seven years. In 1965, Eddy and Anita with their children, Lonnie and Eadie, moved to Spearman where Eddy was a teacher/coach for four years and then an administrator for 17 years, serving as both junior high and high school principal. He impacted the lives of many students before retiring from Spearman ISD in 1986, and stories are still fondly shared about Coach Clemmons to this day. He loved supporting the Spearman Lynx. If he wasn't out of town watching a grandson play football, you could find him sitting in his car watching the Spearman Lynx from the west end zone.
Eddy was a loving and active father and grandfather and a devoted husband. Eddy's most prized titles were "Dad" and "Grandpa." He spent many hours supporting his children and grandchildren in various events including rodeo, football, cheerleading, and livestock shows. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Spearman. Eddy loved spending time in his backyard woodshop and crafted beautiful furniture and heirlooms for his family and friends. His absolute favorite hobby was golf. After retirement, he could be found at the Hansford County Golf Course with his golf buddies every afternoon until he became unable to play. Eddy's lucky hole was hole #7 where he made four Hole-in-Ones. He was lovingly honored at the Womble/Head Memorial Golf Tournament in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Nita, Noal, Bill, and Bob.
Eddy is survived by his bride of 67 years, Anita Clemmons of Spearman; son, Lonnie Clemmons and wife, Paula of Morse; his daughter, Eadie Bradford and husband, Jody of Panhandle. He was "Grandpa" to his grandchildren, Seth Clemmons and wife, Chesnea of Melrose, New Mexico; Jade Bradford and wife Jordan of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Jacy Hammer and husband, Travis of Panhandle; and Jett Bradford of Lubbock; and four great-grandsons (Kanon age 7, Koe age 3, Wells age 2, Bennett age 1) and a great-granddaughter on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Spearman or your favorite charity.
