Eunice Laverne Stephens, 88, of Silverton, Texas, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas. Viewing will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10:00-11:30 AM at the First Baptist Church, Silverton, Texas. Graveside Service will be at 1:00 PM at the Silverton Cemetery, Silverton, Texas. Family visitation will be held at the church following the Graveside Service. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funerals Home, Inc. of Perryton, Texas.

Laverne was born August 17, 1931 in Gilmer, Texas to Allen Verle and Lois Irene McPeek Younger. She graduated from Harleton High School in 1949. June 22, 1950, she married Richard Loyd Stephens. To this union were born Lois Marqueta, Richard Loyd (Ricky), Janie LaNell, and Tammy Lynn.

Loyd and Laverne owned and operated Silverton Metal Works for many years. She also helped in the family's farming and ranching operation. She lived most of her life in the Silverton area and had been an active member of the community and her church, First Baptist Church.

Laverne had an excellent sense of humor and was very funny. A favorite pastime was "feeding the orphaned kids." She was also very talented. There was nothing she couldn't sew, craft, cook, or replicate. This is evident as seen in her beautiful quilts and articles of clothing she sewed, the crocheted items, and her crafts. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed making holiday feasts. But her most favorite was spending time and playing with her family.

God created the perfect wife, mother, and grandmother for our family. She was the ideal Proverbs 31 Woman and a wonderful role model for us to follow. Laverne was deeply loved and will be greatly missed!

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Stephens, her parents, Verle and Lois Younger, a sister, Allene Newman, and a brother, Roy Younger.

Survivors include her children, Lois and Fred Hill, Ricky Stephens, LaNell and Roger Harrison, and Tammy and Brent Brannon; and two brothers, Doyle Younger and Aaron Younger. 17 grandchildren – Chris & Colynn, Bradley & Lisa, Staci, Kelli & Phillip, Richie & Jennifer, Will, Stormy & Caleb, Sage & Eddie, Cameron, and Whitney. 19 great-grandchildren – And many special nieces and nephews

The family suggests memorials be to Silverton EMS, P.O. Box 66, Silverton, TX 79257.
