She was raised on a farm and helped by working in the fields and with other chores around the home. At the age of 15, her mother passed away, which changed her duties to more domestic uses to care for her father and two brothers still at home, and finish high school.

In January 1951 she moved to Perryton and began her career as a telephone operator and advanced to different departments through the company. She retired after 35 years of service in 1986. Her last 15 years with G.T.E. was spent working as Secretary for the Engineering Department, which she truly enjoyed.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Museum of the Plains and Senior Citizens Center in Perryton.

She enjoyed dancing, bowling, fishing, riding horses and taking trips and cruises with friends and family to numerous states and countries.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Carl; her parents; seven brothers, Walter Woodard, Melvin Woodard and wife Betty, Johnnie Woodard who was killed in India during World War II; and infant brother, all from Leedey, Oklahoma; George Woodard and wife Corda, Charles Woodard and wife Omega; and James Woodard, all from Perryton; four sisters, Lillie Williams and husband Walter of Perryton, Della Yarbrough and husband Lee of Perryton, Ruby Slough and husband Eugene of Gruver, Texas, and an infant sister of Leedey.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter, Gina Armstrong of Perryton, Texas; granddaughter Lesli File and husband DeWayne of Aubrey, Texas; grandson Collin Armstrong of Perryton; four great granddaughters, Brooke and Brynley File of Aubrey, Alani Armstrong of Perryton, and Savannah Armstrong of Pampa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
