George  Alwyn "Al" Smith,  67,  of Spearman, passed away Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas.  Viewing will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m, Friday May 21, 2021 from 9:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m and Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 9:00 a.m to 1:30 p.m.  Family visitation will be on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 7 to 8 p.m at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. Graveside services will be on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 3:00 p.m at Hansford Cemetery with Mr. Joe Leathers officiating.  Arrangements are under  the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

George was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 20, 1953 to Joseph Smith and Margaret Dees Smith. He spent his life cowboying everywhere from Florida to Arizona and was also an EMT.  He married Jean Shoopman on September 9,1976 in Wichita Falls, Texas.  George was a member of the Cowboy Church in Spearman.

He was preceded in the death by his mother, Margaret, stepfather, Bruce, daughter, Shelley, and a sister, Elizabeth Fishow.

George is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Laurel and husband, Marcus Vasquez, daughter Alison Smith and husband Travis Boyd, all of Spearman, as well as a son, Dean Smith.  He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Wesley Pledger, Haley Mesta, Ryan Vasquez, and Adler Vasquez and 2 great-grandchildren, Aviana Pledger and Sophie Mesta.

Family suggests memorials be to the Cowboy Church of Spearman.
