Ira Lawrence
Tindell
Dec 8, 1942 — Aug 31, 2024
Willard
Ira Lawrence Tindell, known as "Lawrence," "Daddy," "Lou," "Uncle Lawrence," and most affectionately as "Pa," passed away at the age of 81 on August 31, 2024, at his home in Willard, New Mexico. Born on December 8, 1942, in Torrance County, New Mexico, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family and a commendable work ethic.
Lawrence moved to Spearman, TX, with his family while he was still a teenager. He married, worked, and raised his own family in that wonderful community. It was not until the painful loss of his wife of 40 years that he returned to his roots in New Mexico, where he reconnected with his NM family and made new friends as close as family.
Lawrence was a true cowboy at heart, whose passions included watching rodeos, old westerns, football, and "The Price is Right." He cherished traveling with his family and playing silly games with his granddaughter, Kendall. He will be remembered for his fun-loving nature and his unique ability to give nicknames and simply make others laugh.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue Tindell; his parents, Ira Lee and Thelma Tindell; and sisters, Edith Newsom and Gloria Goodson.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Tindell and wife Belinda; daughter, Teresa Dodson and husband Michael; brothers, Mason, Raymond (and wife Robbin), and Rusty (and wife Judy) Tindell; brother-in-law, Cecil Fryrear and wife Dee Dee; sister-in-law, Donna Giddens and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Trevor Guy (and wife Stacy), Tia Van Ryn (and husband Jeremy), Kristan Brinkley (and husband Michael), and Kendall Dodson; and great-grandchildren, Trey and Tripp Guy, Legend Van Ryn, and Madelyn and Bobby Brinkley. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Cowboy Bud; many friends; cousins; nephews; and nieces; who all held special places in his heart.
A graveside service to honor Lawrence's life will be held at Hansford Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 14. Following the service, a visitation will take place from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Family Life Center, First Baptist Church, Spearman, TX. The family invites all who knew and loved Lawrence to join in celebrating his remarkable life at these events on September 14. Friends and family may also pay their final respects at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 519 Evans Street in Spearman Friday, September 13 from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM or Saturday, September 14 from 9 AM until 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in memory of Lawrence be made to the Hansford Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 243, Spearman, TX. 79081 or the elevator fund at the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 399, Spearman, TX.79081.
