Jim was born in Benkleman, Nebraska on July 10, 1930 to Otto A.F. Stute and Myrtle (Barker) Stute. He married Lucille Edwards February 24th, 1950 in Eureka, KS. They were married nearly 70 years and had two daughters.
Jim attended school in Eureka, KS, and worked in road construction and land clearing methods before beginning a long career in the Oklahoma and Texas Oil fields during the great boom years. Jim and Lucille were always a team. Lucille worked for Sears and eventually retired as a Sears Merchant Store Manager while Jim worked first for Phillips Petroleum and later retired from Baker and Taylor Drilling Company as a Tool Pusher. Jim and Lucille then served together for 15 years as Canton Lake campground hosts in Canton, OK in the Big Bend Camping Area. Jim and Lucille received a President's Call to Service Award, for their work in accumulating over 10,000 volunteer hours at Canton Lake, which was presented by the District Commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They enjoyed serving the visitors to the park and sharing their love of camping, fishing, watersports, community and planting flowers and trees.
Jim's greatest joys included preparing BBQs and fried fish, making his own beef jerky, sharing his secrets for the best "dirty" potatoes and baked apple pies; celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special family occasions; fishing and cooking for an annual Church "Fish Fry"; and good times just visiting with and helping others out.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in September 2019, a daughter, Sharon (Stute) Griffith, in 2004, a brother, Dewayne, his mother, Myrtle, and father, Otto.
Jim is survived by his other daughter, Karen (Stute) Jines and husband, Lanny Jines of South Charleston, Ohio; a son-in-law, Steven Griffith of Azle, TX; four grandchildren Kelly Jines-Storey and husband Blake, Traci McCubbin and husband Craig, Melissa Ashford and husband Daryl, Steven Griffith, Jr. and wife Anna; nine great-grandchildren: Nola, Marra, Gaius, Arya, Alexander, Elizabeth, Cameron, Caleb, and Olivia; and one great-great-grandchild, Harper.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a favorite charity.
