She was born to Hugh and Mary Louise Conine on December 3, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up during the Great Depression in Nowata, Oklahoma and graduated from Nowata High School in 1948. She was voted Most Likely to Succeed of her Senior Class at Nowata High School. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1950, and the University of Oklahoma in 1952. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She taught school in Midland, Amarillo, and Perryton, Texas.
She married Richard (Dick) Parker on August 14, 1954 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage. They had three sons.
Joan was so proud of their three boys. Many memories were made with family vacations, especially fishing, golfing and skiing. Actually, Joan did not enjoy skiing. She was a big sports fan, an avid bridge player, golfer, and an excellent cook. She and Dick travelled the world with their good friends the Hales, the Barnetts, the Streets, and Irene and her "bunch."
She loved the Lord and was in countless Bible Study groups. She served as an elder in her beloved Presbyterian Church. She helped organize the Beehive Day Care Center in Perryton, and the Camp Fire Girls in Amarillo. She was active in the United Way, Ochiltree General Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Perryton Club, DAR, Library Board, Senior Citizens, and the Samaritans Counseling Center of Pampa, Texas.
She was preceded in death by husband Dick and son Hugh Parker, parents Hugh and Mary Louise Conine, and brother Tony Conine.
Surviving are sons and wives Tim and Melinda Parker of Denison, Texas, Rob and Mary Parker of Amarillo, Texas, eight grandchildren; Caroline, Mary and Will Parker; Lauren, Andrea and Gregory Parker; Eliot and Elizabeth Parker; 3 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Irene Conine of Vinita, Oklahoma, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friend Cindy Randolph of Perryton, Texas.
The family would like to thank Bivins Pointe for all the kind and loving care she received while living there.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Perryton Ranger Academic Enrichment Foundation/Pathways, P.O. 179, Perryton, Texas 79070, or your favorite charity.
