Melba was born in Dimmitt, Texas on April 19, 1951 to Arthur Wear and Ellie Montgomery Wear.  She went to school in Dimmitt for many years and left home at an early age to explore the world.  She lived a life of travels, traveling and living in a few different towns and even states.  She lived near Houston, in California and Florida for brief times, and all around the Texas panhandle, including Spearman and Perryton.  She worked in customer care.  She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church in Amarillo and was married in Amarillo.

Melba was always sassy.  She could come back with a smart comment any time and to pretty much anyone.  Always a free spirit, she did what she wanted and didn't care if anyone judged her.
