Micki Fanning, age 87, completed her earthly service on Tuesday, October 8. Friends may sign the guest book on Thursday October 10, 2024 (9:00a.m. until 5:00p.m.) at the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Spearman. There will be a private family burial. Public memorial to follow Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00a.m. at the Spearman Church of Christ, with Rev. John Scott officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Micki was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to Ed and Nancy Osburn Thomas on April 11, 1937. Micki married her heart's desire, Odell Fanning in 1956, in Sayre, Oklahoma. They relocated to Spearman in 1964 and is still known as the best breadmaker in Hansford County. Micki had a natural talent for caring for others and spent her vocational years loving children as a preschool teacher and providing warm customer service while working at Hickerson's Jewelry and Merle Norman Studio.
Micki was a dedicated member of the Spearman Church of Christ and spent time serving with her fellow church ladies in the kitchen, and providing home cooked meals during triumphs and trials. Micki loved people and cherished the deep friendships she had near and far.
Although she was known to Micki by many, her favorite name was Nanny. She was devoted to her five grandkids and had said towards the end of her life that she will always be grateful for the deep roots she grew with each one of them. You could find her cheering them on in stadiums, gymnasiums, graduations, or in life. Anytime a special meal request was made, she went out of her way to make sure her grands had full bellies and warm hearts. Her recipes and the time she spent in the kitchen with them is something that will live on for generations to come. Nanny loved camping with her family and friends. She took pleasure in watching her flowers grow and was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed her summer home at Blue Creek Lodge in South Fork, Colorado. Most days, you could find her barefoot, wearing a pretty blouse with a cup of coffee in her hands and a smile on her face.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Odell Fanning, son, Billy Fanning, her brother, Dempsy Thomas, and sister, Trixie Terry.
Left to treasure her memory is daughter, Brenda Wall and husband Pete, son, Bobby Fanning and wife Shelley. She also leaves behind her biggest blessings, her grandchildren, Kristi Wall and wife Jennnie Rice, Audrey Bullock and husband David, Derrick Fanning and wife Juanita, Chelsea Abowd and husband Mark, Courtney Skelton and husband Mike; her great-grandchildren Lauren and Micah Schroeder, Jayden and Mark Abowd, Chevelle and Charger Fanning, and Finn Skelton, and great-great- grandson, Waylon Schroeder.
("I'm kind of homesick for a country. To which I've never been before. No sad goodbyes will there be spoken, for time won't matter anymore. Buelah Land I'm longing for you. And someday on thee I'll stand. There my home shall be eternal, Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land."- Beulah Land, Squire Parsons
