Phyllis was born April 29, 1939 in Dalhart, TX to Edgar and Marie Hill.
She was preceded in death by her father Edgar Hill and mother Marie Hill, and her sister Iris Farr May 4, 2017
She is survived by her husband Bill Bailey, her 7 children Gina and Dale Parsley, Bill Luker, Patti and Rick Peinado, Theresa Holland, Terry and Rachel Luker, Jonathan and Chandra Bailey, Jordan and Kari Bailey, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren and counting.
On the evening of October 7th our precious Phyllis went home to be with Jesus. Her family quietly gathered in the room and opened the hospital window where the light from a particularly magnificent sunset blanketed the room with the warmest colors of orange, red and pink. As her daughter prepared to leave for the night, she leaned down and touched her arm and said “well done good and faithful servant, it’s time to go home now” and Phyllis took her last breath and went to the arms of Jesus.
She was a wife of 38 years and they were still so in love. They travelled often, enjoying many adventures together. Phyllis was also very close to her only sister who preceded her home to Jesus in 2017. She went to her first church service with her best friend Virginia at 10 years old and fell in love with Jesus. She was baptized soon after at 11 years old and never stopped sharing the hope and joy Jesus gave her with others. She made sure her children went to church every Sunday and Wednesday night and lived out her faith in both the words she spoke and the things she did.
Phyllis loved to play games, and in recent years, became an ambitious Samba player with her tight-knit group of friends. She loved to quilt and hand-quilted special blankets for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phyllis treasured her walks enjoying company or quiet, and the goodness of her Creator. She fiercely loved her family. She cherished a great cup of coffee and a good book. She was an artist and a writer, and never missed a birthday card.
Phyllis was salt and light in this world and a beacon of hope and comfort for countless people. She rose up every morning at 5 AM to spend time with the Lord, beautifully burdened in prayer and supplication for her family, friends, and all those the Lord put in her path. Phyllis enjoyed her BSF Bible group and diving deeper into the Word and she and her husband spent 10 years serving in hospice and the Emmaus community. They both also participated in the foreign exchange student program. She was deeply involved in her church and local ministry, Sharing Hope. She was a big sister in the Big Brother Big Sister program, served in the Jirah ministry, and Meals on Wheels. She was selfless, compassionate, kind and gentle, quiet in spirit, a city on a hill, servant of Christ, spiritual matriarch of her family. Her legacy of loving the Lord and serving others continues on in the work of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those wishing to honor Phyllis’ memory may do so by sending flowers or making a donation to the Sharing Hope ministry in Amarillo Texas.
