Odell was born on April 24, 1935 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Bob and Corrine Fanning.  Odell married his soulmate, Micki Thomas in 1956 in Sayre, Oklahoma.  They embarked on their greatest adventure in 1963 by locating to Spearman, TX.  Odell worked as a field technician for Hansford Implement until his retirement in 1995.  He instilled in his five grandchildren to "boo" at the red tractors, and "cheer" the green ones.  Odell was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ in Spearman.  He worked behind the scenes adjusting thermostats, preparing communion and opening the building for visitors all with the mindset to glorify God in all he did.

Odell loved spending time in the mountains of Colorado in the summertime. Blue Creek Lodge became his second home where he spent many days fishing and rafting the Rio Grande River.  Most days you could find Odell having early morning coffee with his friends and reading the daily paper with a basketball game serving as background music.  He served his family and friends faithfully and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Corrine Fanning and son, Billy Fanning.

Odell  is survived by his one and only Micki Fanning, son, Bobby Fanning and wife Shelley, daughter, Brenda Wall and husband Pete.  He also leaves behind his greatest treasures, his grandchildren, Kristi Wall and wife Jennie Rice, Audrey Bullock and husband David, Derrick Fanning and wife Juanita, Chelsea Abowd and husband Mark, Courtney Skelton and husband Mike; his great grand-children, Lauren and Michah Schroeder, Jayden and Mark Abowd,  Chevelle and Charger Fanning and Finn Skelton.

"Do not weep for me. I now sit at the feet of Jesus.  I am now alive and well.  Because I am gone does not mean life will stop.  The grass will still grow and need to be mowed.  Those green tractors will still roll on across the fields of gold.  Please do not weep for me."
