Ronald Ralph “Rusty” Tregellas was born on March 12, 1951, in Amarillo, Texas, to William Thomas “Bill” Tregellas and Patricia Ann “Pat” Arnold Tregellas, and passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. He married Donnita Faye Henricks Tregellas in Weatherford, Texas, on June 23, 1995, and was a member of First Methodist Church in Perryton.

Rusty graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in animal science. He was a member of the AGR Fraternity and loved staying in touch with his brothers. He was proud of his Figure 1 Ranch, having built a feed lot, and loved living there from birth until his last days. His grandkids will tell you his life motto was “Don’t drive on the grass unless you are mowing it!” Throughout his life, he bought and sold cattle across the United States.

His greatest love, besides his wife and daughters Rochelle and Sharalyn, was racehorses, and Rusty made history as the 1st trainer to win the 1st Thoroughbred 2-year-old race at each racetrack in Texas: Trinity Meadows, Sam Houston Race Park, and Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie. He and Donnita traveled across the United States hauling horses to other racetracks and farms, and he worked for 25 years as a Veterinary Assistant at Prairie Meadows with Equine Associates.

Rusty lived an interesting life and shared many stories with friends about his adventures. He was a great communicator and loved people deeply. He loved spending time with his grandparents, especially his grandmother Birdie, who was the best cook, in his opinion. He drove many miles, making memories by supporting his grandchildren at their many activities and sporting events. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and flew children to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. He loved sharing Hank the Cowdog with his grandchildren and every child he could.

Rusty is survived by his wife, Donnita; daughters, Rochelle Fouts and husband Shawn, of Amarillo, Texas, and Sharalyn Mayden and husband Jay, of Childress, Texas; sons, Sheldon Laverty and wife Penny, of Laverne, Oklahoma, Shannon Laverty and wife Natalie, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, and Shaddon Laverty and wife Anjanette of Shattuck, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jackson Fouts, Trenton Mayden and wife Casey, Kaleb Mayden, Dylan Laverty, Cutter Laverty, Caleb Laverty, Caden Laverty, Jaci, Anna Laverty, Katherine Laverty, Caitlin Laverty, Stacie Green, Darsi Tinnon, and Lacey Rasberry; great-granddaughter, Oakley Mayden; and brother, Rocky Tregellas and wife Janet, nephews Brian Tregellas and wife Jessica, and Blake Tregellas and wife Sarah, and a host of other relatives. Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pat Tregellas, and his grandparents.

The family requests memorials be to Hank the Cowdog, Children’s Shriners Hospital, or the Masonic Lodge.
