Sandy
Campbell
Mar 31, 1945 — Sep 28, 2022
Sandra Lambert Campbell
Sandra Alice "Sandy" was born March 30, 1945, to Andrew and Helen Lambert. Sandy
tragically died Sept. 28 in Perryton, Texas.
Sandy spent most of her youth in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., area. She often spoke of
enjoying dance lessons, school and weeks at her grandmother's farm with her cousins. She
excelled as a student and gained a love for reading that followed her throughout her life.
When the decision to find a college was upon her, Sandy decided to be adventurous and go to
Texas – a place she had never been before. She chose Baylor University. As in high school,
Sandy was a stellar student, graduating summa cum laude in only three years. She was a city
girl, and the one class she did not excel at was swimming. That is how she met John
Campbell, her husband of 56 years. She helped him in Spanish and he helped her in swim
class; thus their love began.
Upon marrying John, Sandy became a permanent resident of Texas. She and John moved to
Perryton in 1972. There Sandy raised her four children, Kerry, Jay, Megan and Sunny. She was
ever the room mom and volunteer for their elementary schools. Sandy also adopted a few
individuals into her clan; any friend of her children who needed clothing, food or a place to stay
was welcome.
Sandy loved Perryton but did miss the trees of Maryland. Her neighbors thought her crazy
when she planted trees all over her property. Now, 30 years later, their canopy shades her
entire house. She was very proud of all the trees and flowers she had in her yard. Keeping
them alive in the harsh conditions was a constant challenge that she enjoyed. Sandy adored
nature and absolutely loved every creature great and small. Her love of animals caused her to
play nursemaid to birds, chipmunks, rabbits and many other critters. Her huge heart had an
unending amount of space for stray animals. Sandy never turned a blind eye to an animal in
need. She is almost the patron saint of Perryton's stray animals. Each animal she found, found
a place in her home. Local children would bring her animals their parents wouldn't let them
have because they knew she would take the animal in. It was not unusual to see neighbor
children in her front yard petting "all the kitties."
Sandy loved to travel, especially to the mountains. She never hesitated to jump in her car and
drive all over Texas to her children's homes. Her favorite destination was England; she loved
and appreciated the beauty of the abundant gardens. Lake Fryer was another special oasis for
Sandy. She loved going to the lake in all seasons, watching the nesting eagles. She would
excitedly tell one of her kids about the eaglets' progress year after year.
Sandy delighted in the holidays, ALL OF THEM!!! "Over the top" was not a thing. There could
never be too many gifts at Christmas, or too many Halloween and Christmas decorations. One
year, she told her daughter she couldn't come down over Halloween because she was making
her yard really special for the neighbor children, and she didn't want to disappoint them.
Sandy is survived by her husband, John Campbell; daughter and son-in-law Kerry and Jeffery
Keith of Louisville, Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law John Curran and Maggie Campbell of
Longview, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Megan and Jeff Williams of Amarillo; and daughter
and son-in-law Sunny and Josh Rayles of Wylie, Texas. She is also loved and survived by her
grandchildren, Catherine, Haley and John Michael Keith; Jake and Joss Williams; and Jackson
Rayles. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Helen Lambert; her sister
Joyce; another infant sister; and grandson Jude Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you sincerely consider adopting one of the animals she
rescued. There are too many for the family to adopt themselves. Text Kerry at 832-483-2273 if
you might be able to help the family by adopting one of the animals. That act of kindness and
love would honor everything Sandy believed in.
