Ted Whitefield was born in Levelland, Texas on September 28, 1960, to LaRue (Goodwin) and Harvey (Red) Whitefield.

On November 21, 1980, Ted married Cheryl Melton in Amarillo, Texas, and together they built a life centered around their children and commitment to family. Ted and Cheryl were blessed with three wonderful children, and they both loved chasing them around the panhandle watching playoff football games with Teddie and too many basketball games to count with both Jennifer and Jocelyn.

Ted worked for Baker and Taylor Drilling company from 1981-1990 moving rigs, working on trucks, and finished his oil field career working on a drilling rig in Belize. After the oilfield, Ted worked for H&H Water Well until his medical retirement in May of 2003. After his retirement, his focus was on grandchildren and collecting all kinds of things that made Cheryl roll her eyes. Ted was an avid storyteller, and according to his family, he never forgot a detail about anything and loved to bring up the most embarrassing parts of supposedly private family stories.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donlane Whitefield, and his constant companion, his dachshund, Jax.

Ted is survived by his wife, his son Teddie Whitefield and his wife Andi of Spearman, daughter, Jennifer Ooley and husband Justin of Spearman, and the baby, Jocelyn Whitefield of Texas City, Texas. The lights of Ted’s life were his grandbabies who affectionately called him Pop: Addison Whitefield and fiancé Ethan Layman, Kambrea Ooley, Hunter Hugh Whitefield, and Dorian (Chase) Wright and their son Jackson. He is also survived by brother Harvey Whitefield and wife Gail of Canadian, Texas, a sister Janice Gale Mayfield and husband Freddie of Spearman, a brother Ed Whitefield and wife Tanja of Spearman, and his favorite sister-in-law to aggravate, Cindy (Melton) Lau and her husband Brett of Forrestburg, Texas. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews and too many friends and extended family to mention.
