Keeping an Urn at Home

This is a common choice and families can select the perfect urn for their loved one.

Placing the Urn in a Columbarium

Many families find comfort in having a final resting place that they can visit.

Burying the Urn

Similar to a casket, the in-ground burial of the urn allows for a final resting place.

Scattering the Cremated Remains

Some families find comfort scattering the cremated remains in a special place.

With cremation services, we at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home believe you should have the freedom to choose the type of service that feels most meaningful to you. Cremation offers many options and does not eliminate the possibility of having a traditional funeral service. A funeral followed by cremation can be much the same as a funeral followed by burial.

Following the funeral service and cremation, the cremated remains are typically placed in an urn before being brought to their final resting place. An urn may be interred in an existing family burial plot, placed in a designated cremation section of a cemetery, or kept in an indoor or outdoor cemetery columbarium.

Cremated remains may also be scattered in a designated location on land or water, subject to applicable local laws and regulations. Permission is required before scattering remains on private property. It is also worth considering the long-term implications of scattering remains on personal property or in public places.

For many people, having a permanent place to visit is an important part of remembrance. A dedicated resting place gives family and friends somewhere to reflect, share memories, and celebrate a life that touched so many others.

Funeral Services and Ceremonies with Cremation

Choosing cremation does not limit your options for a funeral or memorial service. In fact, it offers many opportunities to create a meaningful tribute before or after cremation.

Options may include a casket or urn, a visitation with the deceased present, a memorial visitation featuring the urn, photographs, personal belongings, awards, meaningful music, and a location that reflects your wishes.

Personalized and Unique Services

Every life is unique, and we believe every tribute should reflect that individuality. Our services can be personalized to accommodate your needs, preferences, and wishes. Our staff is available to help you plan a memorial that honors your loved one in a meaningful way.

A memorial can take many forms, from a traditional ceremony to a more personal celebration of life. We are happy to explain our available options and help you make choices that reflect your wishes and meet your needs.

A funeral service should be a warm and memorable reflection of the person who has died. Creating a meaningful tribute does not have to mean an elaborate ceremony.

Photographs, a favorite song, a treasured tie, golf clubs, or other meaningful belongings can help make a service more personal. Tell us what made your loved one special, and we will help you explore ways to incorporate those details into a heartfelt tribute.

Direct Cremation

Direct cremation involves cremation shortly after death without a preceding viewing or visitation. Embalming is generally unnecessary. The cremated remains are returned in an urn or another container. Although there is no viewing or visitation, a memorial service may be arranged with or without the cremated remains present.

Families may choose to keep the urn at home, place it in a cemetery niche or crypt, bury it, or scatter the remains in an appropriate location in accordance with applicable laws.

Direct cremation generally costs less than a traditional, full-service funeral. Expenses may include the funeral home's basic services fee, transportation and care of the deceased, and the crematory fee. Depending on the arrangements, the crematory fee may be included or charged separately. An urn or alternative container may also involve an additional cost. Cemetery property and placement fees apply if the remains are buried or placed in a crypt or niche.

Personalization

We understand the importance of creating a service that reflects a life well lived. That is why we offer a variety of personalization options to help make each tribute meaningful and unique.
