Earth Burial
Earth Burial
This type of funeral, often referred to by funeral providers as a “traditional” funeral, typically includes a viewing or visitation, a formal funeral service, transportation by hearse to the funeral service and cemetery, and burial, entombment, or cremation. It is generally the most expensive type of funeral.
In addition to the funeral home's basic services fee, costs may include embalming and dressing the deceased, use of the funeral home for the viewing or service, and transportation for family members who do not use their own vehicles. The cost of a casket, cemetery plot or crypt, and other funeral goods and services must also be considered.
At Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, we believe a traditional service for burial, entombment, or cremation is often the best choice for meeting the needs of family and friends.
A traditional funeral service may include the following:
- Casket
- Transfer of the deceased to the funeral home
- Embalming
- Dressing, cosmetology, and other care of the deceased
- Professional support and administrative staff assistance
- Use of visitation rooms
- General use of the facilities for the service and arrangements
- Funeral service
- Use of a funeral coach
- Limousine
- Utility vehicle
- Register book
- Acknowledgment cards
- Memorial folders or prayer cards

A traditional service provides a meaningful way for family members to honor their loved one. It also gives friends and acquaintances an opportunity to express their condolences through flowers or memorial donations to churches and other organizations.
A member of the clergy or another person chosen by the family typically conducts the service of remembrance. We encourage families to participate in planning this part of the service. Family members may choose to contribute by sharing a reading, singing, or assisting the clergy.
Direct Burial
With direct burial, the deceased is buried shortly after death, usually in a simple container. There is no viewing or visitation, so embalming is generally unnecessary. A memorial service may be held at the graveside or at a later date.

Direct burial typically costs less than a traditional, full service funeral. Expenses may include the funeral home's basic services fee, transportation and care of the deceased, a casket or burial container, and a cemetery plot or crypt. If the family wishes to be present at the cemetery for the burial, an additional fee for graveside services may apply.
